Riccarton house bistro & garden bar opening night!

October 29, 2011

PS. Pic above is not of me, just hapless happy party goers :D

I was lucky enough to be invited to the post-quake summer re-launch of Riccarton House Bistro, set in the stunning surrounds of Deans Bush yesterday evening. The Taste Events team have managed to put together a truly fantastic space, offering really fantastic local seasonal fare that is impressive without being pretentious. The summer menu looks interesting without being whacky and offers some great inspiration for the foodies out there who also cook. It’s hard for me to express just how excited I am about how this place is going to lift the game of Christchurch eating institutions. Instead I’ll try to let the pictures speak for themselves.

Just imagine top-notch Farmers Market produce being used at your local cafe, bistro and bar.

Imagine it also being set in a stunning garden where sculptured bushes meet the crazy native bushes lining the river.

Imagine nibbling outside in the summer, over clinking cold glasses…

…and candlelight in the evening.

Imagine rushing inside to the warm marquee when cool summer rain hits

Grab another drink with friends, relax and flash a thank-you grin at the Taste Events team, who have put all of this together!

Christchurch Cup Week Brunch & Bubbles

The marquee in the beautiful gardens overlooking the river will be open specially for cup week festivities  Tuesday 8th-Friday 11th November (8am onwards) for cup week high tea. Per person with nibbles: $35 w Lindauer or tea/coffee/juice, $50 w Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne included in your high tea. Ring  348 6190 or email info@tasteevents.co.nz to book.

Why do you describe guests as hapless? We had a wonderful time and weren’t miserable, woebegone, forlorn or wretched at all!
    Cheers Angela

V: As is yours! Very special compliment coming from you, thanks!

L: Cheers – this place is open during summer and maybe a bit of Autumn, which are the best times to visit Canterbury. Warm but very rarely too hot, with some really amazing fresh produce!

Awesome to read about a re-opening of what looks like an amazing place in Chch. We’ve had so many great Chch/Canterbury folk up here for various food events… and I have been swept away by the conversations, by the strength of the people I have met and by the quality of the food/drink/produce. We live in a great country!
