If only every winter started off this sweet!

May 11, 2011

Food or fashion? J’aime les macarons really blurred the line! Macarons are of course the sweet treat of the moment, whether you’re a baker or dessert addict…Or you know, both.

I was super duper lucky to be invited to J’aime les macarons‘ winter macaron collection launch, which also happened to celebrate the opening of their new kitchen. It was lovely to meet the two women who have satiated Christchurch’s sweet tooth with their gorgeous creations! Bridget and Amanda were very generous (and stylish) hosts.

There was no shortage of flavours to try, and on top of all the macarons, there was some wonderful home made pear sorbet and teensy lemon and basil sandwiches to cleanse the palate. I managed to try everything except the hazelnut and manuka, with my favourite being…

Pistachio and sour cherry…Followed closely by pear and ginger. Loved the wee twang each had to offset all the sweetness and richness. The rose and quince macaron in the little goodie bags we got to take away were also really special.

Thanks to the rest of the team who put up with me popping my nose into the kitchen throughout the night! I just tend to feel more at home in a kitchen, even if it’s not my own >.<

…and of course thanks for ensuring we were spoilt silly!

That wee tower had to be constantly replaced! Nothing like chocolate and caramel to please the crowd ;)

If you’re in New Zealand, you’re in luck, because J’aime les macarons deliver nationwide. Of course if you’re in Christchurch you can visit the shop to check out what other limited edition flavours they’re concocting, in addition to their classics. Or you can visit them at the Christchurch Farmers Market on a Saturday morning. The winter collection will be available in store beginning of June.

PS. Judging at the Taste Farmers Markets New Zealand Awards 2011 was so awesome! Will have a properly huge post to do it all justice, which may take a while!

A: Wish my French was good enough to reply properly >.<'

B: I know, have been super spoilt! The only downside to today was that I accidentally deleted two photos of recipes I was going to post about, but c'est la vie!

A: SO lucky. I think I need to post some recipes before the awards post, or I’ll feel like a food brat! They are really worth getting delivered! It’s not so viable making six different macaron flavours at home, and in any case I don’t think I could come up with some of their awesome flavour pairings.

Sounds like another amazing event. I’m with you, I think the pistachio and cherry would be my favorite.

I’m super jealous now! I still haven’t eaten any good macarons in Welly. Don’t get me wrong now – I LOVE Welly. But it is lacking in the fabulous pastries, cakes and dessert department. :-(

R: Ah, the glamorous life of a food blogger ;)

S: Really? Would have thought Welly would have plenty of excellent dessert places. I suppose you could always get them sent up :D

Ohhh I was just in Christchurch, too – wish I’d read this before going down there. They look absolutely gorgeous, lucky you – I think I would have struggled to tear myself away from that tower.

H: Haha, much of the time I *was* away from the tower, I was in the kitchen >.<
