Lynette’s baking sheet giveaway

October 28, 2011

You know those kitchen items that make cooking fun, rather than a chore? For the lucky people out there with KitchenAid mixers and Le Creuset pans, you’ll know what I mean. However, there are more humble kitchen things (that er…cost less than $100!) that every cook becomes a bit attached to. This is one of those things. A few months ago I bought Lynette’s non-stick, re-usable baking sheet because, well, who doesn’t get sick of running out of baking paper and cutting it to the right shape every time? I was originally going to get a silicon baking sheet, but Lynette’s baking sheet caught my eye because it’s a lot thinner and makes for much better heat conductivity. I also bake all of my own bread, mostly at 220-230C, and these can withstand that, whereas not all silicone ones do. Plus they’re available all over New Zealand, so I didn’t have to wait for three weeks and pay $20 for shipping.

After several months of use they have acquired “kitchen essential” status. You can cut the sheets to whatever size you want, and they’re pretty bendy too, so I don’t just line my baking tray, but my cake tin and loaf pan. Cakes come off much better than if you lined the pan with paper, and they also rise much more evenly too (a pleasant bonus surprise). Most importantly, I don’t have to cut a new piece each time. Saves me running out of paper, paying for more paper, and throwing paper out. You just roll up and slip into the box, so they take up no more room than a roll of parchment. At around NZ$28 a sheet (420mm x 330mm), these are also really good value for money.

So I did what most food bloggers would probably not consider doing – I contacted Lynette directly, asking if she’d be interested in being promoted on my blog. I’m not interested in getting paid, so I asked if she’d be keen to share the love by giving away a few baking sheets to lucky Two Spoons readers!

This giveaway is now closed :) Cheers for all the lovely ideas in the comments, it was lots of fun reading them!

If you don’t win, but know any foodies that have it all, rest assured even if they have one of these already they would love another one. I know I would! So you can tick off “reward the cook in my house.” :D NZ stockists listed here.

Good luck, and happy baking :D

these sheets would be ideal when making parmesan crisps & brandy snaps.. :)

Kudos to you for reaching out! I do the same whenever I find a product I love (I don’t ask if they want a plug on my blog, I simply write and tell them why I like and appreciate them) – even companies need compliments every now and again. :)

I’m in the US, so I’m not eligible for your contest (sad); do you know if the baking sheets are sold in the US? I suppose I could Google it and find out for myself, too…

  3. October 28, 2011 1:04 pm

P.S. Looks like they don’t sell these in the US. Sad. :(

Oh these look great – I have a silpat mat (silicon) but you can’t cut it or anything. I’m from Australia, and I’d probably use them most for roasting veges (assuming I can use them for that?). Otherwise it’s be cookies :D

  5. October 28, 2011 12:45 pm

Oh, I haven`t heard about these wonderful baking sheets! I still use paper as silicon sheets seem to me not giving creespy crast I like. I`d like to try this Lynette`s baking sheet for my chocolate chip cookies (I bake them so often all the time).

Olly: These are great for retaining the crispy bottoms!

Stef: I would try to contact Lynette directly, and she may be able to sort something out for you :)

I can’t enter, I just have to say my microplane is on my under $100 essential list.

Oh… how exciting! I can think of endless uses for these! Everything from lining the bottom of a pudding basin for sticky date pudding… to pouring toffee on… to lining my tins, trays and dishes. Awesome to have an alternative to paper & silicon.

Oh goodness! Without a doubt – Macarons! I have absolutely HAD IT peeling off my perfectly, footed, smooth topped macarons to find the bottom half firmly attached to the baking paper. I hear these do the trick – am I correct?? I am willing to try anything!

  10. October 28, 2011 4:56 pm

Christina: If the macarons are undercooked they will stick to just about anything :( If they are done though they come right off these sheets :)

  11. October 28, 2011 5:34 pm

Wow a barbecue sheet too…I can finally have a bbq lentil burger without it sticking to the hot plate! Well I am Australian, bbq is high on the priority list. It also sounds like a perfect tool for making a rolled vegetable frittata or a cream filled rouleaux. Mmmm

These look amazing. I end up baking a cake for everyone who has a birthday – to the point where they get requested from other cities now! So having something that will work to line cake tins sounds perfect, there is nothing worse than fluffing about trying to get the baking paper to line a tin when you’re trying to make a cake at 11pm at night… ahem.

And of course, coming in to BBQ season means this would be a great thing to put over the grill, and gives us a good excuse for not cleaning it at the end of last Summer too :-/ (actually, I blame the Earthquake for that)

  13. October 28, 2011 7:00 pm

i would gift it to my mum for her brandy snaps, they always stick!!

  14. October 28, 2011 7:47 pm

Id love to try these with the gluten free cakes I make for a family member as they always seem to stick and crumble.

oh my god this is just what i need i am always running out of baking paper at the wrong moment, just when you have the biscuit batter all made and alas no baking paper, you put on the baking tray and alas they stick and what a disaster

  16. October 28, 2011 8:00 pm

These look amazing! I’d be using them for all sorts of yummy baking, and if they work as well as you suggest for bread baking then then they would be seeing a lot of use!

I`ve seen these baking sheets, but I couldn`t even imagine that they are so great! Usually I use baking paper or silicon for everything.
I would definitely use it for the bread making (baking paper is not perfect for that) and the ability to cut it to fix any pan is very good!
Also I will use it for cookies, macaroons, merengues, cakes… Actually for everything! :)))))))
If it`s also perfect for BBQ, it is the essential thing on my kitchen!
    And crispy crust… I love it!!! Mmmmmmmm…..
How could I live without these baking sheets??? :)))))
Hope to have it very soon… ;)

It is a great idea, I use kilometres of baking paper and the idea of using the same sheet over and over again is very appealing :-). I would use it mostly for biscuits, I make so many biscuits!!!

And I live in NZ :-)

    PS
I’ll twit and FB this one!

Oooh I’m excited! I was just wondering a couple of days ago about how I could reduce my baking paper use…
I am in NZ and would probably use it for bread as I love making bread and have just begun a sourdough starter!

  21. October 28, 2011 10:19 pm

So glad you have discovered these Zo, we have used them at home for years and now take their amazing-ness for granted – some of our sheets are probably more than 10 years old and still going strong. They are permanently on our baking trays and used for everything – especially bread and biscuits. Lynette’s are the best, cheaper brands don’t cut it. I have given lots of these away as gifts – well done for taliong the initiative and sharing the love!!! Might put it on favourite things next week and link to your giveaway if that’s ok?

  22. October 28, 2011 10:23 pm

I’m in NZ and have a silicon sheet but it’s falling apart so one of these fancy ones would certainly be well-used here – mostly for baking cookies and cakes for the lunchboxes to get us through the week. Also great for keeping pastry from becoming attached to the baking tray.

I have seen these baking sheet on the various blog I have read and I told myself I need to get one. At times when I bake cookies I throw away the baking paper I feel bad about it. Definitely not helping the environment. Having this baking sheet I will definitely use it for baking cookies, macaroons (which I have been longing to do for so long), cakes, bread, etc. Hmm.. I wonder whether I can use it for baking chicken nibbles, nuggets, chips, potatoes, etc… If this is all multifunctional there will be no more baking papers and aluminium foil. Awesome!

Oh! Oh! These look awesome! I’m from NZ and would use them to make melting moment biscuits! Or maybe praline/brittle :)

  27. October 31, 2011 4:39 pm

These sound exciting! I feel so wasteful throwing baking paper out after one use… I’d love to use them for meringues and macarons.
    I’m in Australia.

  28. October 31, 2011 8:53 pm

Oh Yes PLEASE! I try to re use my baking paper and sometimes it works and sometimes I forget what was on it before and my previosly roasted eggplant has been known to lightly flavour my almond yummies (a Nigella Lawson recipe I have forgotten the name of just make them by feel now!) which makes them not so yummy! I’ve never heard of this product before and it sounds great. I am in NZ and, as you know a fan of your blog so a freebie offer makes it even better. I know, I know, shameless buttering up! Enjoy it anyway.

Just discovered this blog and it is wonderful. I often follow a lot of american blogs and have actually used one of the ideas from them to save money on my christmas gifts this year. Rainbow cookies in a jar for the kids and Cranberry, white chocolate and pistachio cookies for the adults.:) Would love to have one of these baking sheets so i can try out more recipe’s that would be ideal for christmas gifts this year. I have been living in Christchurch for the past year and it is great to see a local blog

I’m from Christchurch, new Zealand too. I would love some of these sheets and I would use them for EVERYTHING. I’m constantly baking and get sick of using baking paper, and especially throwing so much of it away afterwards (and it’s not cheap). Silicon doesn’t cut it either, I find it often makes dry edges. I’ve only just discovered this blog while googling for a recipe (which I found here and will make tonight!). PS: It’s also my birthday on Monday and this would be a great present to me!

Oh the possibilities are endless! I’d use these to drizzle melted chocolate on and once set peeling off to make designs to decorate my cupcakes with. As for baking I’m am forever scraping the bottoms of my stained-glass window biscuits and molasses pumpkin cookies from their supposedly non-stick baking tray. It would even do as a make-shift sushi rolling mat once my sweet tooth has been saturated. I’m from NZ so hope I am in with a shot to win!
